The Bihar Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has passed a resolution seeking "special category status" for the state. The demand gained momentum following the recent caste survey in Bihar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, in a social media post, disclosed that the resolution urging the Centre to accept the demand was approved during the cabinet meeting. Kumar highlighted that Bihar has 94 lakh poor families, and his government plans to launch schemes requiring an expenditure of nearly Rs 2.50 lakh crore for their welfare. He emphasized that with the special category status, the state could achieve these goals more rapidly with central assistance.
